11 Year Old Once Snubbed By Ovechkin Becomes NHL Player, Meets Ovechkin

Miles Wood sent the NHL superstar a card to sign 10 years ago. No response. Wood, now on the New Jersey Devils, played Ovechkin last night.

A bunch of years ago, I was at a Heat-Wizards game, back when the Heat had all those good players. Alex Ovechkin was sitting a few rows in front of me. Nobody made too big a deal about it, but when he walked up the isle I, Cool Dude that I am, yelled out, "Hey, Alex!" He completely ignored me, as he should have. Fans are the worst.

Which is to say, I know how Miles Wood feels. A decade ago, when Wood was 11, he sent Ovechkin a card and asked him to sign it. If he didn't sign it, Wood promised he would check Ovechkin the first chance he got when little Miles Wood made it to the NHL. Ovechkin, then-21 years old, if he saw the letter at all, probably never even thought the kid would make it to the NHL.

Well, fast forward to 2016, and lo ho ho, dear readers, what do you know? Little Miles Wood is now Big Miles Wood, winger for the New Jersey Devils (and dead ringer for James Franco). The Devils played Ovechkin's Washington Capitals on Thursday night for the first time this year. Ovechkin, now a wise 31 year old, found out about the whole card story and sent Wood an autographed photo before the game, asking Wood to "take it easy" on him. Ovehckin, ever the suave pro, also paid him a bathrobed visit after the game.

Two points and an @ovi8 autograph. Not a bad trip to the nation's capital for @MilesWood28!

I don't know if Ovechkin regularly roams the Verizon Center halls in his bathrobe, but I'm assuming this was a classic power move. Look kid, the bathrobe says, you may think you're funny, but I'm Alex Fucking Ovechkin. Hahaha )))

The Devils beat the Capitals in a shootout, 2-1.
