Virginia Tech Upset At Home BY ECU In Final Minute

Virginia Tech came all the way back, but lost a heartbreaker the final minute.

One week after an upset win over Ohio State, Virginia Tech is on the shit end of the upset stick with a 28-21 loss at home to Eastern Carolina University. The game-winning touchdown was a one-yard run from quarterback Shane Carden with 16 seconds left in the game. ECU jumped out to a big lead, but the Hokies came back from 21 down to tie the game with little over a minute left. Almost a minute later, they were toast.

On the decisive possession after Tech tied it up, ECU took the ball on their own 35 with 1:20 left,—Virginia Tech was penalized on the kickoff for kicking it out of bounds—and quickly marched down the field. A first down pass to Cam Worthy put the Pirates in Virginia Tech territory. Another Carden-Worthy hookup for 28 yards put ECU on the one-yard line. Carden did the rest with a keeper and waltzed into the end zone untouched. Virginia Tech got close enough for a last ditch hail mary, but it sailed out of the end zone and the home crowd was stunned and bummed.
