Villanova Wins National Championship Over UNC in Absolutely Bonkers Finish

Kris Jenkins hit the shot of his life to give Villanova the national championship win over UNC.

Villanova beat North Carolina 77-74 to win the National Championship in an unbelievable finish in Houston. The WIldcats held an 11-point lead with as little as 5:29 left in the game, but UNC chipped away with timely threes and forced a key turnover with some pressing defense to get the lead down to one point with a minute to play. It soon became a foul shooting game and Villanova hit theirs, building the lead back up to three at 74-71 with 14 seconds left. Then Marcus Paige hit an absolutely ridiculous shot to tie it at 74-74 with 4.7 seconds left.

It had virtually not shot of going in and yet somehow Paige got it off while each of his limbs went in a different direction. But, there was still plenty of time for Villanova to get the ball up court and find a decent shot. Ryan Arcidiacono took the ball up court and found Kris Jenkins and, my god, he just barely got it off in time. With .5 seconds left on the clock, the ball left his fingertips and hit nothing but net for Nova's first NCAA Championship since 1985. The entire game was played at a breakneck pace, but this finish was an instant classic. The only bad thing you can say about it is that someone had to lose.

And here is perhaps the best reaction to winning a National Championship you'll ever see: walking shoulder shrug emoji Jay Wright. That about sums up that final sequence.
