Iowa State Boned By Shoddy Special Teams

Oklahoma State recovered a kickoff after a field-goal drive due to an Iowa State miscommunication. It was a high, mid-range kickoff that landed between the Iowa State's special teams unit. The Cowboys were able to run it down and recover it.

Oklahoma State had to settle for a field goal on what looked to be their final possession of the first half, but thanks to a lucky bounce and some Iowa State bonery, they got the ball right back on the kickoff. It was a high kick with a ton of hang time that landed in the middle of the Iowa State special teams unit. It actually bounced in between two potential receivers—one of whom was the deep man who came up to field it—but it was in such a weird position, they both let it bounce. With no one behind the play, the Cowboys were able to track it down for a free possession.

They had about 45 seconds to get a score from the 11-yard line and finally got into the end zone as time expired on a close call at the goal line. The referees initially said no touchdown, but on review, they reversed the call and ruled the ball had broken the plane. It was the first touchdown of the half and OSU took a 13-6 lead into the half.

At the start of the second-half, we got some more special teams bonery from Iowa State and the Cowboys returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. Iowa State gave up two touchdowns in 11 seconds of game time.
