Steven Gerrard Sent Off For Leg Stomp, Juan Mata Scores Wonder Goal

Liverpool-Manchester United has gone bonkers. Steven Gerrard was sent off for stomping on someone's leg and Juan Mata nets a stunning highlight-reel goal.

Liverpool find themselves down 2-1 to Manchester United, playing with ten men, and without Steven Gerrard. Those last two are related because seconds after entering the game in the first minute of the second half, Gerrard was sent off for stomping all over Ander Herrera's leg after Herrera went in for a challenge. It seemed like Gerrard was frustrated with a couple late challenges, but it was an obvious red card.

Minutes later, Manchester United capitalized with the incredible goal from Juan Mata at the top of this post. Mata has both goals for United and seemed to finish off Liverpool with that effort, but Daniel Sturridge pulled them back in to make it 2-1. Things are getting wild at Anfield.

Update: Things continued to get wild before United held on for the 2-1 win, first with Mario Balotelli having to be restrained from going after Chris Smalling by a fan. The two were battling for the ball and went careening into the boundary.

Then, right before the final whistle blew, Martin Skrtel was chasing down a last ditch effort ball and David De Gea dove in to scoop it up. As he did, Skrtel pulled a Gerard and stomped right on de Gea's leg.

It did look like he was trying to avoid him and jump over the keeper, but his plant foot just happened to be right on De Gea. The whistle blew shortly after and there was a brief skirmish before all participants went their own way.
