Star Kiwi cricketer Ross Taylor has revealed the eye injury that will keep him out of New Zealand's upcoming one-day tour of Australia.

Taylor, who scored 102 not out in the Black Caps' second test victory over Pakistan in Hamilton, shared the image of his left eye on Twitter. The Black Caps ex-captain noted that he was about to get his pterygium removed.

Often referred to as 'surfer's eye,' a pterygium is a growth of fleshy tissue on the film-like tissue that covers your eye ball. It is easily fixed, but causes obvious visual issues for the sufferer beforehand.

Despite the injury, Taylor was able to bash his 16th test ton against Pakistan, leaving him only one behind his former mentor, legendary Kiwi batsman Martin Crowe. Crowe died of cancer in March.

Taylor should be back in the Black Caps for their short-form home series against Bangladesh later this month.
