A previously unknown 21-year-old Indian may have put himself in a the frame for a massive IPL payday after bludgeoning the first triple ton in Twenty20 history this week.

Mohit Ahlawat smashed 300 not out off just 72 balls for Indian club Maavi in Delhi. The innings included 39 sixes and 14 fours, and came at an average rate of 4.17 runs per ball.

Suffice to say, the bowling was wayward - especially in the final over when Ahlawat was 30 runs short of his three hundy.

The 21-year-old hit five consecutive sixes to bring up the remarkable round figure - and give himself extra confidence of being a flyer for one of the big money IPL clubs later this month.

"Yes, I have put my name in IPL auction but I am not sure if this knock will help make people notice me," he told ABP Live after his innings. "The attack was good but after seeing off the new ball, I decided to just bat aggressively and was really timing the ball well.

"I saw the scoreboard, and I was nearing my 200 with five overs to go, so I decided to go for the kill. I reached 250 with just two overs to go, I told my partner, 'let me try if I can make 300', and I got 30 off the last over."

Ahlawat's knock helped his team through to 416 for 2 off their 20 overs, meaning the chase would require 20.81 runs an over to be toppled.

Information is scarce online, suggesting their opponents weren't able to do it.
