TCU Suspends Trevone Boykin After He Got into a Bar Fight and Punched a Cop

TCU will be without star quarterback Trevone Boykin for Saturday's Alamo Bowl.

TCU has suspended quarterback Trevone Boykin for Saturday's game against Oregon in the Alamo Bowl. Boykin was in a San Antonio bar around 2 AM last night when people recognized who he was and started shit-talking him. He got fed up and started brawling, even hitting a bar employee. He and the rest of the crew fighting were removed from the bar, but it only got worse from there. It sounds like Boykin had the chance to leave without any kind of issue, but he somehow wound up punching a bike cop instead:

According to an incident report provided by the San Antonio PD, the suspect "was very aggressive and was being held back by the group that he was with. Members of his group stated they would get him back to the hotel they were staying at." After walking away, the suspect, whom police were told by bystanders was Boykin, charged officers. McManus said that he was swinging and struck an officer in the face. Several officers then took Boykin to the ground. After officers threatened to use a stun gun on Boykin, he was arrested.

It's unclear if Boykin was attempting to hit the officer or someone else behind him, but he was charged with assaulting a public servant, which is a third-degree felony, and assessed a $5,000 bond. He was also charged with lesser offenses of resisting arrest and public intoxication. TCU announced they were suspending Boykin and wide receiver Preston Miller for violation of team rules in a statement: "We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU Horned Frogs Nation, Valero Alamo Bowl and city of San Antonio."
