Gregg Zaun Unleashes Bizarre Rant on Yordano Ventura for Bashing Jose Bautista

Legendary journeyman catcher Gregg Zaun calls out Yordano Ventura for saying mean things to Jose Bautista on Twitter.

The Royals and Blue Jays got into a whole imbroglio yesterday with a huge assist from umpire Jim Wolf. In the first inning, Edinson Volquez hit Toronto third baseman Josh Donaldson and Donaldson did not appreciate it. Nothing really happened, but Wolf, the home plate umpire, warned both benches anyway. This bench-warning system is possibly the dumbest, least effective thing in the history of sports, and it caused a whole lot of problems later in the game, including more hit batsmen and the benches clearing. Eventually everyone got back to their benches, the game ended, and the teams moved on to the next series. Or so we thought.

Last night, Yordano Ventura tweeted some nasty things at Jose Bautista, calling him a nobody and accusing him of stealing signs, and being fresh among other things. This prompted Gregg Zaun—the Gregg Zaun—to write and then read on the air, a bizarre letter blasting Ventura. Highlights include, cribbing lines from Top Gun, calling Ventura "Tommy Tough Guy," and telling him to "grab a bat and man up, otherwise shut up." He also called himself "the Mentalist" I think? I honestly don't even know, man. Gregg Zaun!

Ventura has since apologized to Bautista.
