Phillies Catcher Throws Baseball Right at Sean O'Sullivan's Throat

Phillies pitcher Sean O'Sullivan took a baseball to the throat, courtesy of his own catcher.

One start after Sean O'Sullivan showed some wonderful reflexes with a great bare-handed catch on a come-backer, his reaction time was not quite as impressive on a throw from his catcher Cameron Rupp. Either upset with himself for missing high and inside, or upset at the home plate umpire's refusal to call a ball a strike, O'Sullivan turned away from home after his 2-2 pitch to Aaron Hill. Rupp, who looked like he was peeking down at the runner on third, threw it back to O'Sullivan without realizing he wasn't expecting it, and the ball hit him right in the damn Adam's Apple. Not helpful, Cameron!

Manager Ryne Sandberg and the trainers came out to give him a look but he was OK, and after one warmup toss he got Hill to pop up to end the inning and his day. O'Sullivan finished with four strikeouts, allowed no runs on five hits and two walks over six innings, and the Phillies won 6-0.
