Browns Set up Game-Tying TD with Circus Catch, Blow the Game Anyway

Gary Barnidge set up the game-tying touchdown (which he also caught) with this crazy catch.

Man, the Browns. It looked like they might actually do something fun and exciting and not terrible, but here we are, chatting underneath that headline. This play was a huge piece in their mini-comeback and it was initially ruled incomplete, but Browns coach Mike Pettine challenged it and it was reversed. On first and ten from the San Diego 20, Josh McCown lofted a pass to Gary Barnidge down the near sideline and the tight end tipped it to himself and was able to corral it in one hand as he got his knee, then his elbow down in bounds.

It was a 19-yard play that put the Browns on the Chargers one-yard line. After Duke Johnson got stuffed at the line, McCown went back to Barnidge for a quick out play for the touchdown. Down two, just north of the two-minute warning, the Browns went for two and tied the game at 27-27.

But these are the Browns.

The Chargers came back and drove the field, setting up Josh Lambo for a 39-yard field goal but he missed it as time expired. However! He was given a second chance thanks to an offsides call against Cleveland. Tramon WIlliams was clearly offside as he tried to block the attempt and gave the Chargers a second chance. of course Lambo made it from 34, now, and the Chargers won 30-27.
