Wayne Rooney is an aging troll. He may sport an ugly baby face all the time, but the man is getting up there, rounding out his 30th year on earth this coming October (he'll be 31 on the 24th). But there's still a little kick in the tank, as he proved in today's FA Cup match by gunning down a long ball to Everton's Romelu Lukaku, to make a spectacular clearance off the line.

The long ball from Everton's keeper came in like a heat-seeking missile, and Lukaku boisterously kept it in play, shaking two defenders and permitting himself the patience to await a false move from David DeGea and send a well-placed shot toward the net. It was good as gold, except that Rooney character would have nothing of it. Rooney clipped at a decent pace from midfield, about 10 yards behind Lukaku to start, but then turned on the afterburners to meet the ball at the line with a deft header to clear the ball out of danger. Even for a younger man, it would be an impressive feat. The troll-baby lives on.
