Watford Celebrate Promotion by Splitting with Fourth Boss of the Season

Watford have split with the manager who led them to the Premier League, but no one's in any way surprised

Watford are set to dispense with their fourth manager of the season, with Slavisa Jokanovic (above) departing despite leading the team to automatic promotion into the Premier League.

In many ways it's the perfect style in which to end a campaign of managerial upheaval. Giuseppe Sannino began the season but left in August, followed by former Brighton boss Oscar Garcia, who lasted jut four games before leaving due to health issues.

That was still longer than Bill McKinley, who was manager for just two games before making way for Jokanovic. The Serb was a relative stalwart, lasting seven months and helping Watford to gain promotion to the Premier League.

And with a win rate of better than 50%, Jokanovic is statistically the most successful manager in the club's history. That's one for the C.V, Slav.

"Do I Not Like That"

It's a far cry from Watford's longest serving boss, Graham Taylor, who was in charge of the club for more than 600 games over two spells totalling 15 years. This season, the average tenure for a Watford boss has been closer to 15 weeks.

The club have plenty of options to replace Jokanovic and their Italian owners have already been linked with Roberto di Matteo and former Atletico Madrid manager Quique Flores.

Perhaps all that is left for the club to achieve is sacking two managers before the new season begins. Which you wouldn't discount — they're halfway there and it's not even June yet.

"What about Alan Curbishley?"

Unfortunately we've not yet been able to link Alan Curbishley with this job but are working hard to find a potential link. With Tim Sherwood now in work it is also proving difficult to connect the former Spurs boss with the role, but not impossible.
