Bears Teammate Pernell McPhee Gets in Jay Cutler's Face after Interception

Jay Cutler threw a pick, got injured, and had a teammate scream in his face last night.

It may fair to call the Chicago Bears' 29-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday a classic Jay Cutler game. The mercurial quarterback has done more good than bad during his time in Chicago, but his career usually boils down to a montage of casually-tossed interceptions and terrible optics.

So it was late in the third quarter, as Cutler leaned back off his wrong foot and whipped a pass right into the arms of an Eagles defender. It was classic Bad Cutler, an inexcusable throw by a dude who looked like he'd rather be off smoking Winstons or not vaccinating his kids.

And then suddenly everything got weird. Linebacker Pernell McPhee, currently on the Physically Unable to Perform list after offseason knee surgery and ineligible to return until Week 7, got in his quarterback's face on the sideline as Cutler walked to the locker room to get treatment for a thumb injury. Cutler sat out the rest of the game, and later emerged with his hand in a cast. He finished the night 12 of 17 for 157 yards. He was sacked three times and lost a fumble.

The veteran signal-caller took the high road when asked about the dustup:

"I'm fine with that. He's a passionate guy. Everyone's got a lot invested into this, and he does as well. No one likes to lose. No one likes to lose in that type of fashion. He's upset. I'm upset. Everyone is upset in that locker room right now. But the good thing is that we've got a bunch of good guys in there. We've got a bunch of good coaches, and we've 14 games left."

Indeed, the Bears do have 14 games left. Considering the team is 0-2, with an injured team captain (Cutler) needing to defuse a tense sideline argument with another injured team captain (McPhee), it is shaping up to be a very rough 14 games.
