There's No 'I' in Team, But There's Two in Kane Williamson's Name

Someone's in trouble, as Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson wears a mis-spelled jersey in Twenty20 clash

There's little argument: Kane Williamson is the best-talented, most-recognisable New Zealand cricketer right now.

You would imagine that level of recognition would extend to the crew that print the Black Caps game jerseys. Not so.

Last night, Williamson strode to the crease in Napier for New Zealand Twenty20 international against Bangladesh wearing a jersey emblazoned with 'Willamson.'

The Kiwi skipper knew of the mistake when he pulled the jersey on, but decided to get out in the middle anyway.

"I did [realise] yeah - I had to wear a shirt and someone spelt my name wrong," he told media, afterwards. "I'm not sure who did that. It's all good, it still felt the same."

My shirt says 'WILLAMSON' tonight because there's no i in team. Apart from the first i because that's my name. I'm still working on it

Clearly. Williamson made an effortless 73 off just 55 balls to help New Zealand claim a six wicket victory at McLean Park.

The Kiwi captain bought up 1000 Twenty20 international runs in the process, becoming the fifth fastest ever - in just 34 innings. Only Virat Kohli (India), Kevin Pietersen (England), Alex Hales (England) and Faf du Plessis (South Africa) did it quicker.

In 2004, legendary Aussie quick Glenn McGrath played a one-dayer against New Zealand in Sydney with 'McGarth' written on his back, while last March, Australian power bat Usman Khawaja arrived at his IPL franchise Rising Pune Supergiants to find a jersey with his name spelt 'Khwaja.'

"Looks like Pune were expecting 'Khwaja' to come play. I better go home," he joked, on Twitter.
