Florida State Almost Blows Game in the Weirdest Way

Florida State's NCAA Tournament chances are slight, but they almost ended for good thanks to a truly bizarre end against Clemson.

Florida State's hopes for getting into the NCAA Tournament are still alive despite themselves. Clemson, thanks in part to a 10-1 run in the last minute, and two absolutely bizarre inbound sequences for Florida State, almost came back to beat the Tigers in the ACC Tournament. The Seminoles won 76-73, but if a couple shots dropped for Clemson, they'd be kicking themselves for blowing a chance to keep their season going.

The final 30 seconds took about 10 minutes to play out because of all the craziness, including FSU's miserable day trying to inbound the ball. Earlier, Phil Cofer turned it over on a five-second call when he didn't call timeout quickly enough. Then, with nearly 30 seconds left, Cofer slipped while inbounding and lost the ball, gifting Clemson two points. The ball bounced on the baseline and should have been just a straight turnover and no bucket, but the referees couldn't change that call. Then, Devon Bookert's face found a way to turn it over on another inbound attempt. The pass either deflected off a Clemson defender's hand or Bookert couldn't handle it. Whatever the case, it went right into his face and out of bounds.

Clemson had the ball with 24 seconds left, trailing only by two and nearly tied it when Rod Hall's layup hung on the rim for seemingly ever, and then rolled off. They had a chance to tie with a three at the end, but Florida State survived and their bubble may not have gotten bigger, but it didn't burst.
