David Galt, Silvia Rubio and Big Joe Noblet: Vice Sports UK Goals of the Week

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a bunch of footballers, scoring some bloody great goals!

When we pledge to bring you weekly goal highlights, we're not exactly reinventing the wheel. Sure, we always try to show top-quality strikes on the far fringes of the mainstream but, let's face it, goals are the staple of football writing the world over.

Where we do reinvent the wheel, however, is in our promise never to write "scenes" at the end of our highlights. That makes us better than the vast majority of other outlets, and that's why you should stick around to watch these bloody great goals.

THE SCOTTISH SCORCHER

There must be something in the water at the Broadwood Stadium, because Clyde FC matches have produced some pretty awesome goals recently. A week and a half ago, Bully Wee star Scott Linton hit a thumping half-volley in their fourth-tier play-off clash with Elgin City. This week, it was the turn of Clyde's opponents to score a scorcher.

In a 3-1 victory for Queen's Park in the first leg of the play-off final, midfielder David Galt notched the goal of the game. Winning the ball in the middle of the park, he charged forwards before firing in off the underside of the crossbar from a full 35 yards.

And who said Scottish League Two was all about two-footed tackling and elbows to the face? Oh, wait, that might have been us.

THE MIGHTY INJUSTICE

It's not often we bring you goals from the North West Counties Premier Division and, as such, the fact that this 40-yard screamer was disallowed seems even more unjust. Playing in his side's crunch clash with Ashton Athletic, Squires Gate star Joe Noblet looked up and saw the opposition keeper off his line. Thumping a shot high into the air, he watched in disbelief as it sailed into the back of the net.

It was only as Noblet wheeled away to celebrate that he realised the referee had waved play on.

Now, this is a mighty injustice. It is a monstrous affront to long-range goalscorers everywhere. We're not in the habit of including disallowed goals in our highlights but – for the sake of Joe Noblet – we shall make an exception. We hope our appreciation of this strike goes some way towards righting the official's terrible wrong.

THE LOB OF A LIFETIME

That's brilliant. Silvia Rubio' great goal here. #WU17EURO pic.twitter.com/DCFfuY2nGo

While there's bound to be some debate about whether or not this is, in fact, a lob, that shouldn't be allowed to detract from the sheer beauty of the effort. Scored by Spanish midfielder Silvia Rubio in the Women's U17 European Championship, the exaggerated rise and fall of the shot made it practically unstoppable.

Rubio's strike broke the deadlock in Spain's semi-final against Norway, before her teammates added three more to secure a place in the grand finale of the tournament. If she can score a goal of this caliber in the final itself, there'll be absolute scenes.
