There's a Giant Inflatable Chicken Trolling Trump Outside the White House

It’s huge. It's a chicken. It's right outside the White House. It looks like Donald Trump.

Simply posting your discontent on Twitter is for the birds. 2017 is all about the giant inflatable gimmick mocking your political nemesis. Today in DC saw the reemergence of Chicken Don, a 60-foot inflatable chicken mimicking the 45th President of the United States right outside the White House. The brainchild of Seattle-based designer Casey Laitiolas, it started making appearances this spring to bring attention to President Trump's refusal to release his tax-returns and what organizers perceive as general chicken-like behavior. It has most recently taken up a semi-permanent residence in the nation's capital, often within eyesight of the oh-so-vain commander- in-chief. This recent chicken sighting comes at a very interesting time as hostilities between the US and new to the nuclear club North Korea intensify.

Vice Impact: So, what's up with the chicken?

Taran Singh Brar: I am doing this because I think it is a very effective form of criticizing the president's behavior and actions. As you can tell it's hard to keep up with newspapers and stuff all the time because there is a lot of information coming at us, and it's easy to become overwhelmed. An image is worth a thousand words, and that's the case with this image. It really effectively portrays Trump as a chicken. The message is that he's too afraid to release his tax returns, too afraid to stand up to Putin, and is playing a game of chicken with North Korea.

How long have you been doing it for?

I've had this idea since March and it's taken a few months and repeated trips to DC to get the permits and the planning and everything squared away.

What are you looking to accomplish with it?

Hopefully first to break through with the visuals and then hopefully build up towards an action called "Chicken March", where the president displays all this insecure vulgar behavior but he still wants a military parade in DC. The Pentagon has turned him down because that's not what they do here. So we will give him a mock-military parade and it will feature a bunch of these Chicken-Dons and Russian inflatable balloons to protect him.

What do you think Trump thinks of it?

Considering how visually obsessed he is, it probably hurts him. He's probably in some sort of rage.

What has been some of the responses from people walking around the Mall?

Very joyous. Even most Trump people are okay with it. It's kinda like a cute image.

Couldn't you just tweet at him? Why do a physical thing like this?

The symbolism is huge. The iconic shots shot by CNN, ABC, NBC, the foreground White House background, Washington Monument -- I just felt like this 30-foot Don would be able to pop it's head into those.

What's your day job? I am a documentary filmmaker making a film on the physicist Charles Townes who invented the laser. Not many people know its history, actually.
