New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul apparently rented a U-Haul van and loaded it up with fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July at or near his home in South Florida last night. A couple people who claimed to be neighbors posted pictures of the van on Twitter, in addition to tweets saying they were actually lighting them together before later deleting them. Something went wrong while trying to light some of the fireworks and Pierre Paul required hospitalization for a reported hand injury. Details remain scarce, but Andy Slater, of WINZ in Miami, described the injury as a severe one.

TMZ has a source that says Pierre Paul suffered "bad injuries to some of his fingers and his thumb." The Giants used the franchise tag on Pierre-Paul, but he hasn't signed his tender, so he is technically not under contract with the team.

Update:

Adam Schefter reports that the injuries are not expected to be career-threatening, and Mort reports that he may not miss any time at all.

Jason Pierre-Paul expected to meet with doctors, they will have their say, but early indications are, hand injury is not career threatening.
