VICE Sports World News Roundup: July 2

Our morning roundup of the sports news from around the world.

Good morning, America. Welcome to the VICE Sports worldwide news roundup. Be sure to stop by daily for your morning headlines.

It's the 2nd of July, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still president of FIFA. This morning, Blatter told the press that he is not corrupt before briefly discussing religion: "My faith has given me strength during the last week. I am a religious person and pray, too. I own a golden cross that has been blessed by Pope Francis. I believe I will go to heaven one day. But I believe there is no hell. I disagree with the Pope on that." To each his own.

Japan beat England 2-1 in the second semifinal of the Women's World Cup. The game looked headed for extra time when English defender Laura Bassett put the ball in her own net. Brutal. The U.S. will meet Japan on Sunday in a repeat of the 2011 Women's World Cup final.

Despite England's success, there will be no Team Great Britain at the Olympics next year.

After their elimination from the Women's World Cup, the Spanish team openly called for the firing of coach Ignacio Quereda. Quereda has coached the Spanish women since 1988, to no great success. It seems like it might be time for a change. In fact, as letters recently obtained by Marca show, the women on Spain's team have been calling for change since 1996.

The Women's World Cup continues to kick ass in TV viewership, which is up 45 percent from the previous tournament.

Mexican striker Chicharito Hernandez is out of the Gold Cup. He broke his collarbone yesterday in a friendly against Honduras.

Carla Howe, a Playboy model, claims to have punched ex Arsenal and Chelsea defender Ashley Cole in the face three times—with a ring on. Ouch.

Abou Diaby, the former Arsenal midfielder, is reportedly "in talks" with MLS. Great signing or ridiculous crap shoot? Diaby is only 29, but is as fragile as they come. He's only played 42 times since the 2010-11 season. UPDATE: It's happening!

The AP has a nice rundown of serious offenses committed by NFL players over the past couple months. The list leads with Brandon Ivory, the defensive lineman for the Houston Texans. Ivory may has been charged with burglary.
