NHL Prospect Arrested, Tasered for Reportedly Head-Butting a Cop at Disney World

Winnipeg Jets prospect Darren Kramer was arrested and tasered Tuesday for allegedly getting into a fight and head-butting a police officer at Disney World.

Kramer, 24, who plays for the Manitoba Moose—the Jets' AHL affiliate—was charged with battery of a law enforcement officer, grand theft and resisting arrest.

The incident began early Tuesday morning when the forward's friend was approached by police, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department, while holding a large flag and bowling pins that were allegedly stolen from a display case at the world-famous entertainment complex.

Police say Kramer's friend identified himself as "Corbin" and said he won the items before running off when police tried to arrest him. Officers contest that Kramer tried to interfere during the incident before he got into a confrontation with an officer and resisted arrest, which eventually led to police using a taser on him.

The officer reported the following statement in the arrest affidavit:

Kramer pulled me off my feet and began to run. I was able to maintain control of the handcuff and pull him toward me. Kramer was then able to turn completely toward me and break the control I had of his handcuff. I then observed Kramer to lower his right shoulder and raise his left arm and if he was preparing to strike me with a punch… Due to our close proximity I then reached out to Kramer and grabbed his shirt and attempted to pull him off balance. Kramer stepped forward and lowered his head, hitting me in the chest. This caused both of us to fall to the ground where Kramer ended up falling onto me.

Kramer was released from custody on a $500 bond.

The Alberta native scored 12 points and recorded 138 penalty minutes over 61 games with the Moose this past season.
