Australia's former Prime Minister (1983 to 1991), Bob Hawke, just skolled a beer live on TV from the crowd of the Australia vs Pakistan cricket test at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

When the camera found the 87-year-old, he didn't hesitate, immediately caving in to the nation's desires and draining the ice cold glass of tonic. Australian coach Darren Lehmann and Australian captain, Steve Smith were just two of the many watching on who were reduced to hysterics (see bottom).

Skolling beers at the SCG cricket test has become a favourite party trick of the former Prime Minister. Back in 2012, aged 82, Hawke acknowledged one fan's request to down "one for the country, Robert," and finished his beer in one gulp. He obliged again two years later, during day two of the Australia vs England Ashes Series. In a surreal moment forever etched into the memory of Australian cricket fans, Hawke was cheered on by a crowd of people dressed as the legendary Australian cult-cricket commentator, Richie Benaud.

Hawke has written himself into bogan folklore on several occasions. The first was for claiming the world record as the fastest person ever to drink a 1400 ml yard glass of beer (in a time of 11 seconds, during his university years at Oxford in the United Kingdom). The second was for declaring a national holiday on the day of Australia's first win in the America's Cup yacht race, a move he announced with the now immortal line: "Anyone who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum." And now this, which might prove to be his most popular.
