USA-Germany Scoreless After First Half

There was plenty of action in the first half of USA-Germany, but we are locked in a scoreless tie.

The USWNT pretty fairly won the first half of their semifinal match against Germany, but they remain in a scoreless tie. The US dominated play and much of the action was spent right in front of the German keeper, Nadine Angerer, but some nice goalkeeping and an inability to finish kept the US off the scoresheet.

The first chance, above, came in the seventh minute off a corner kick and I'm still not sure how Angerer made the save. Rapinoe sent it in, and it pinballed all over the place, finally off Angerer's shin and safely out. Alex Morgan has had a couple of great opportunities, the first off an incredible through ball, and the second on a wonderful bit of skill to flick it past and flank her defender. Here's the first:

On the second chance, she might have been able to pass it off, but it was tight:

There's also a potential controversy brewing regarding the concussion protocol, or lack thereof, after Morgan Brian and Alexandra Popp slammed heads fighting for a header. both women were left bloodied from the collision, and even though trainers looked at them on and off the field, and held them out as the game continued, they were back on the field within minutes.

Despite the injury concern, this was an incredible first half of soccer and hopefully it continues for the next 45 minutes.
