In a Bonkers Yet Controversial Play, Texas Tech Scores 100-Yard TD After Stripping Texas of a Near-TD Of Their Own

There's a lot to take in here. The setup, the mayhem, the profound swing of emotions that only college football can provide—and a bunch of internet referees dropping their "well, actually"s after the fact. Texas Tech are hosting rival Texas Longhorns today, and generated one of the craziest fucking plays you'll see in a long minute, resulting in a 100-yard touchdown for the ages.

Let's just try and break this down.

Texas was at 3rd and goal at the 24-yardline, trying to make sure they didn't need to spend 4th down deciding how best to dive across the end zone. And they created an amazing running play! A handoff led to a rip right up the middle seam of Texas Tech's defense, and somehow, achingly, inch-by-inch, they crossed the goal line despite being mobbed by red jerseys. Wait. What? No they didn't?

Here's what happened at the 11th hour: Tech's defensive back Douglas Coleman somehow wrested the ball from the Longhorns right before (or, arguably, right as) they broke the plane, and ran it back for a 100-yard touchdown, taking full advantage of the scattered Longhorns.

But wait. As the internet officials would let you know, that was not how the play should have gone down. Many are out there saying that Coleman didn't have full possession of the ball before it broke the plane. Many are saying that it could have gone either way. But, unequivocally, Coleman stepped out of bounds at the 2-yardline.

Maybe we should give the Big 12 refs a break here. They just wanted to see an amazing play come to fruition.
