GIants Win On Walk-Off Throwing Error

Randy Choate had a meltdown on the mound for the Cardinals and in the tenth inning, allowing two bas erunners and then airmailing a throw to first on a bunt attempt.

The San Francisco Giants took a 2-1 lead in the NLCS with a 5-4 extra-inning win at home over the Cardinals. Randy Choate walked Brandon Crawford to start the tenth and then gave up a single to Juan Perez. With runners on first and second, the Cardinals tried bunting to get the winning run to third so he could score on almost any play. Turns out "almost any play" includes an airmailed throw to first on the bunt.

Gregor Blanco dropped a bunt that only Choate could field and his submarine-style throwing motion may have contributed to the awfulness of the throw; he really whipped that thing to no one in particular. Second baseman Kolten Wong, covering first, tried in vain to dive back for the ball, but it was headed down the right field line and Brandon Crawford easily scored the winning run. Game 4 is tomorrow at 8:07 ET.
