Announcer Asks God's Forgiveness for Counting His Chickens After Three-Quarter-Court Buzzer-Beater

"Yes! Yes! Forgive me Lord, I counted my chickens before they hatched!"

There was a hotfire of a hoops game in the Peach Belt Conference Monday night between the Montevallo Falcons of Alabama and the Young Harris Mountain Lions out of Georgia. The Falcons prevailed 89-83 in overtime, but the final score is not why we've taken you south for some D2 basketball.

We go down to Georgia because Mountain Lions announcer Tommy Jenkins was, in the words of Dan Rather on the night of the 2000 election, "hotter than the Devil's anvil."

Quick table setting for y'all, courtesy of Young Harris Sports Communications:

"Young Harris rallied from an eight-point deficit (54-48) with 8:13 remaining in regulation to force the extra period. With 1.6 seconds left and the Falcons holding a 71-68 lead, Javonte Douglas had a chance to seal the win for Montevallo, but missed both free throws. C.J. Wilson grabbed the defensive rebound took one step and heaved a three-pointer from about 70 feet from the right side of the court."

Cue the down-home drawl and take it away, Tommy!

"Missed free throw, we still got a chance at the buzzer…Yes! Yes! Yes! Oh my goodness! Yes! Yes! Yes! Forgive me Lord, I counted my chickens before they hatched!"

Far be it for us to ape the Almighty, but to our eyes, all is forgiven, Tommy. You rule.
