Kenyon Martin Drops Mic on George Karl's Stupid "Not Having Fathers" Comment

George Karl wrote a dumb-ass book and went scorched earth on the star players he coached.
Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

George Karl has a book coming out and it is chock full of stupid, sour-grapes shit about the star players he coached. Karl, who never won a damn thing in the NBA, spares no one, going after NBA champion J.R. Smith, three-time Olympic gold medalist Carmelo Anthony, and former No. 1 overall pick Kenyon Martin. Karl coached all three while with the Denver Nuggets and referred to them as "AAU babies" not unlike "the spoiled brats you see in junior golf and junior tennis." Charming.

It's hard to understand why he always seemed to butt heads with his players when he held them in such high esteem, while simultaneously never once taking responsibility for his inability to, you know, coach. After thoroughly assassinating Carmelo's character, he concludes "Coaching him meant working around his defense and compensating for his attitude." Which I guess you didn't do, George!

Anyway, that's all prelude to the real nefarious bit in the book, which is Karl wondering aloud if maybe his otherworldly talented stars failed not because of any fault of his own, but for the men who were not in their lives:

"Kenyon and Carmelo carried two big burdens: all that money and no father to show them how to act like a man," Karl wrote.

Ah yes, if only they had a strong male presence in their lives, to show them the error of their ways, to teach them to be better men personally and professionally. Too bad.

Kenyon Martin finally heard what Karl had to say and did a little wondering aloud of his own:

I didn't have a father going up. We all know that. What's George Karl excuse for being a terrible person

A true head-scratcher.
