Mamadou Sakho has decided not to challenge the results of last month's failed drugs test, which reportedly showed evidence of him having used a banned fat-burning substance.

Though he was widely expected to ask for his B sample to be tested ahead of the UEFA deadline on Tuesday, Sakho has now accepted the findings of the original test. That took place after Liverpool's Europa League clash with Manchester United on 17 March, and the results were revealed late last week.

Sakho will present mitigating evidence to UEFA in the hope of shortening his impending ban. Nonetheless, a six-month suspension is being mooted – one which would see him miss the entirety of France's Euro 2016 campaign and the beginning of next season.

Liverpool have refused to comment on the defender's decision not to challenge the original test, insisting it is still a private matter. He will remain unavailable for selection until the conclusion of UEFA's investigation.

Sakho's acceptance of the A sample's findings may speed up the disciplinary process, with his suspension starting earlier than if he had challenged the results.
