Cowboys And Dez Bryant Burned By Same "Process Of The Catch" Rule As Calvin Johnson And The Lions

The Cowboys lost to the Packers after a huge Dez Bryant reception was overturned on replay.

Dez Bryant made what looked to be a tremendous catch to put the Cowboys one inch from the end zone in a tightly contested game, but Mike McCarthy finally won a challenge. On fourth-and-two from the Green Bay 32, Romo found Bryant down the sideline and the wide receiver made a great play to even get his hands on the ball. As he went to the ground he looked like he had control, took a step, and then hit the turf. Once he landed, the ball hit the ground and rolled around in his arm.

The Packers challenged the ruling on the field and after watching the replay, officials decided that he did not maintain possession of the ball through the catch, and therefore the pass was incomplete. It was a fourth down play that would have put the Cowboys in an unbelievable position to take the lead, so the swing in fortune was devastating.

The Packers took over the ball and ran out the clock to hang on and advance to play Seattle in the NFC Championship for a shot at the Super Bowl. As a consolation, The Cowboys have a comforting friend who's been there before.

Mike Pereira even mentioned that play from 2010-even more confusing and counter-intuitive than the one in this game-during the broadcast, and the Lions were all too happy to give the Cowboys a playful punch to the chin. Get 'em next time, guys.
