After earning over $19 million during his NHL career, former NHL defenceman Mike Commodore recently tried his hand at a slightly less lucrative job—driving for Uber.

Commodore, who now lives near Scottsdale, Arizona, worked as an Uber driver for several hours last Friday evening, collecting a cool $94 in pay and even a hefty $5 in tips for his efforts.

"One of the guys I drove gave me a single [dollar] as a tip and I told him, 'Hey, buddy, you keep it. You need it more than me.'" Commodore told TSN's Bob McKenzie on his way to a Phoenix area golf course.

Just got my first cash tip…..4 bucks…hahaha…— Mike Commodore (@commie22)October 22, 2016

Since being bought out by Columbus in 2012, money has not been an issue for Commodore, but trying to figure out what to do with all his free time has.

"I'm single, I've got no kids, I was just looking for something to get me out of the house and keep me out of the bars," he explained. "I don't really do too much except play golf or go to the bar, so I figured this would be a good social thing for me."

He even had an interesting conversation with a niece of a former teammate of his after picking up six teenage girls for a function in his Cadillac Escalade.

After finding out he was a Canadian who used to play hockey for a living, one of the girls asked if he knew her uncle, former NHL All-Star Doug Weight, who is now an assistant coach with the Islanders.

"I told her not only do I know Dougie but I played with him [in Carolina]," he said. "They didn't believe me at first and I told her to call Dougie, which she did, but he didn't pick up. I think the Islanders were playing Friday night."

To be clear….her and her 5 friends are 16 and 17 years old…so picked them up as in Uber. And dropped them off.

Commodore played 484 regular-season games with seven teams over a 12-year career. He and his large mop of red hair were popularized during Calgary's run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2004. He's also been known as one of the funny guys in the league over the past decade, and is always good for a few laughs on Twitter.

When asked about his thoughts on the experience and if he'd ever do it again, Commodore gave a classic Commodore response.

"I don't mind driving. I like to meet people and I like to talk to people. I'll definitely do it again, one night a weekend or maybe even during the week."

Let's hope for everyone's sake, though, that Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock doesn't need a last-minute ride next time he's in Scottsdale.
