Toronto Raptors forward and prized free-agent acquisition DeMarre Carroll underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday morning, and there's no timetable for his return.

Carroll, whom the Raptors inked to a four-year, $60 million deal in the offseason, has been hampered by a knee injury for much of the season. He's already missed 13 of the team's 36 games, including nine straight in December, and his production has left a lot to be desired.

The seven-year veteran is averaging 11.7 points on 38.8 percent shooting from the field, along with 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 steals. His 3-point shooting has been a plus, however, as he's connecting on 37.8 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. Carroll's 11.6 player efficiency rating is his lowest mark since the 2011-12 season when he split time with Denver and Utah.

Carroll was acquired to be a key piece for the Raptors this season, particularly on the defensive end, after the team was embarrassed by the Wizards in the first round of the playoffs. It marked the second consecutive season the team was knocked out in the opening round. Carroll was an all-around threat on a Hawks team that went an East-best 60-22 last season.

Even with a hobbled Carroll, the Raptors have gotten off to another hot start. The team sits first in the Atlantic Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 21-15 record.
