Fantasy Football Dating App, Week 8

It's time to start taking Andy Dalton seriously. His price tag is a no brainer this week.

Every Sunday morning, fantasy owners face similar choices to the ones "dating" app users do on Saturday night. There are plenty of options out there. The question is whether you swipe left and pass on potential opportunity or swipe right and open the door for exciting possibilities. Each week, we'll talk about which players deserve a swipe right when setting your daily fantasy lineup.

Andrew Luck

A month into the season, Luck's poor play made him a prime contender for fantasy bust of the year. Despite his struggles, his DFS price tag never seems to go down. He's really turned it around in the last two weeks, throwing for over 600 yards and 6 scores, but now he has to go into Carolina to face a defense that excels against the pass. Without a discount, Luck is far too expensive to trust in a difficult match-up. Even during Halloween week, it's not worth seeing if a fantasy zombie can come all the way back to life.

DeAndre Hopkins

DeAndre Hopkins doesn't even need a Halloween costume. He's already a monster. He leads all receivers in fantasy points per game and has looked completely unguardable against single coverage. However, Arian Foster's devastating injury could mean that he's seen his last one-on-one opportunity this year. Without another talented playmaker to keep teams honest, taking Hopkins out is likely going to be the sole focus of opposing defensive coordinators. Perhaps he's such a stud that he gets his anyways, but I want to wait at least a week to see how he does against an adjusted level of defensive attention before committing to blowing my budget on the second-most expensive player in the entire game.

Rob Gronkowski

Betting against Rob Gronkowski is certainly the scariest thing you can do this week. He's the gold standard at TE and is often the first guy on daily players' lineup cards. I remain a big fan, but think it's time to take a week off. The Dolphins look rejuvenated under Dan Campbell and have completely blanked opposing tight ends on three separate occasions this year. Furthermore, this game will be played in the fantasy sinkhole known as Thursday Night Football, which shortens the Pats' recovery time after a physical contest with the Jets. Throw in the return of Brandon LaFell and the raw number of weapons at Tom Brady's disposal and, for once, it appears Gronk is something less than a sure thing.

Justin Forsett

Forsett entered the season with high expectations due to his surprisingly strong 2014 campaign and offensive guru Marc Trestman taking over the play-calling reigns. The jury is still out on the Marc Trestman Experience overall, but after starting out slow, Forsett has put up double-digit fantasy points in each of his last four contests while averaging nearly 23 touches per game. Now he gets to face the truly horrid Chargers run defense. If Forsett receives 20-plus touches against this league-worst unit, he should have no problem paying dividends on his $6,100 price tag.

Stefon Diggs

Diggs entered the fantasy season with basically zero expectations after being selected in the 5th round of last year's draft. All he's done since being put in the lineup in Week 4 is average 108 yards, 6.3 receptions and 9 targets per game. Oh yeah, he also did this. Despite the short track record, Teddy Bridgewater goes his way more than any other Vikings player, and we've seen Diggs has the talent to leverage those looks into nice numbers. Facing a terrible Bears D and at a price of just $4,800, I expect Diggs to deliver full size fantasy production on his fun size price.

Andy Dalton

Andy Dalton remains curiously undervalued in the fantasy community. He's averaging more fantasy points per game than Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck, and Cam Newton, trailing only Tom Brady in the category, yet he carries only the 13th highest price tag this week. That would suggest a tough match-up, but the Steelers have allowed the second most passing yards in the league over the last three weeks. Best of all, the Bengals have had two weeks to figure out how to best deploy their excellent weapons against a D with more soft spots than Tony Siragusa in a Stay Puft Marshmallow Man costume. Expect returns that far exceed Dalton's comparatively modest cost.
