Cubs Closer Hector Rondon Got Stuck in the Bullpen Bathroom, Almost Needed Firemen to Save Him

Chicago Cubs closer Hector Rondon got stuck in a bathroom at Busch Stadium during Game 1 on Friday.

Chicago's closer Hector Rondon got the save last night in the Cubs Game 2 win over the Cardinals, but luckily he was never needed in the 4-0 loss in Game 1 because he was…indisposed. At some point in the later innings Friday night in St. Louis, Rondon got locked in the bathroom and could not get out. True story!

Chicago Cubs closer Hector Rondon got stuck in the bullpen bathroom for several minutes during Game 1 of the NL Division Series. Joe Walsh, St. Louis' director of stadium operations, said the latch froze during the latter innings of the Cardinals' 4-0 win Friday night.

MLB.com's Carrie Muskat followed up with Rondon, who said he was stuck in what is surely a well-appointed and well-maintained visiting team bathroom in the bullpen for about five minutes and he did not think it was a prank. Rondon kept his cool however, as he hung out by himself in a closet where people relieve themselves of human waste. "I closed the door and when I tried to get out, I was stuck," he said. "I was knocking on the door, saying, 'Hey, I'm locked in.'"

The grim reality soon dawned on Rondon and he starting thinking about escape plans. He had no idea that city firefighters were on hand to bust him out, if neccesary, so he told Muskat, "Oh my God, I might have to jump." Luckily, it never came to that and the firefighters did not have to extricate him, either. Joe Walsh told the AP that stadium personnel "got the lock to function." Said Rondon, "they finally opened the door."

Weirdly enough, I imagine there were many people, in many bathrooms around the park, who had a similar sense of relief when the person in front of them finally opened the door, too.
