Rayo Vallecano Recognise “Anonymous Heroes" With New Kits

Rayo Vallecano's new away kit honours society's unsung heroes. That makes them a seriously cool football club.

Rayo Vallecano are a unique club. It's not just about their fans, their passion for attacking football, or their unbreakable connection with the Vallecas district of Madrid: Rayo are different from the rest because they aren't afraid to stand tall on social issues. The design of their new 2015-16 shirts is a good example of this.

The first kit remains as the classic red stripe on a white shirt, but the second and third jerseys are something special. Their away choice is black with a rainbow sash, a tribute to the LGBT community; the third kit will be grey with a pink sash, honouring those fighting against cancer.

Rayo explain their choice in the following video, stating that their aim is to follow the example of the "anonymous heroes".

We think it's not just the anonymous heroes who deserve credit, but also Rayo for remembering them — and reminding us about their invaluable work. There's certainly a lesson to learn from the Spanish club; perhaps some other sporting giants should follow their example.
