Matt Harvey Hits First Career Home Run

Matt Harvey hit his first career home run at Citi Field today. Hooray for pitcher home runs!

The Mets have gone home run happy today at Citi Field and hit three of them in a seven at-bat span in the fifth and sixth innings. Lucas Duda got the party started and I'm sure he feels good about himself and all of that, but we've got a pitcher home run to deal with here, folks. No one cares about your regular old home run, Duda.

After Duda's whatever, man homer, John Mayberry, Jr. And Kevin Plawecki were retired, but Kevin Campbell walked, setting up Harvey for two-out at bat with a man on first. He swung at the first pitch he saw and hit it to left-center field for a two run homer and 3-2 lead. It was reviewed for possible fan interference, but it was clearly out, and the umps upheld the call. Harvey, possibly still jacked up, went on to record his first one-two-three inning of the day in the sixth, and Ruben Tejada added another home run in the bottom half to give the Mets a 4-2 lead.

Earlier in the year, Noah Syndergaard hit the first home run for a Mets pitcher in three years and Harvey was clearly confused/impressed by the power display. He surely didn't mind joining Syndergaard as the Mets newest bash brother.

Now we're just waiting on Bart Colon to join the club. It's only a matter of time; the Mets pitching staff has actually out-hit the Mets bench this year, so Bart is due.
