VICE Sports World News Roundup: August 17

Start your day with VICE Sports. Here's our morning roundup of the sports news from around the world.

Good morning, America. Welcome to the VICE Sports World News Roundup. Be sure to stop by daily for your morning headlines.

It's the 17th of August, 2015, and Sepp Blatter is still president of FIFA.

UEFA President Michel Platini, by no means a reform candidate, is nevertheless the likely frontrunner to replace Blatter. Strangely, the FIFA establishment doesn't appear to keen on Platini. An unflattering "dossier," called "Platini - skeleton in the closet," has been circulating at the FIFA offices. UEFA sent FIFA a letter of complaint. You can't make this stuff up, people.

In the weekend's biggest match, Manchester City thumped Chelsea 3-0. It was a pretty resounding victory for City, but one Jose Mourinho downplayed when interviewed, post-game. (Shocking, I know.) Mourinho called the victory "fake," which the Chelsea website then doubled down on. Here's his post-match quote, via The Guardian:

"If the 1-0 was a doubtful result at minute 70, 3-0 is completely fake. At 1-0 Chelsea were the best team for the whole second half. They make a change because they feel 1-0 is in danger and we concede a second goal. If 1-1 [it's] a different story, their team is in trouble."

Mourinho also substituted John Terry for the first time ever. Is he starting to lose it?

In Germany, the match everyone is talking about is Borussia Dortmund's 4-0 destruction of Borussia Monchengladbach, which I don't think anyone saw coming. Is Dortmund back?

Jason Day won the PGA Championship. He finished a record -20 and was pretty emotional about it all.

David Denson, a minor leaguer in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, came out as gay. He's the only openly gay player on an MLB affiliated club.

According to BILD, German-American Andrew Wooten has been called up for the U.S. national team's friendlies against Peru and Brazil on the 4th and 8th of September, respectively. It's weird that it's taken Klinsmann this long to call Wooten, as he's been the U.S.'s best player in the second Bundesliga for a couple seasons now. The 25 year old scored twice over the weekend and already has 5 goals this season.

Andy Murray beat Novak Djokovic in final of the Rogers Cup 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, his first defeat of Djokovic since 2013. Belinda Bencic beat No. 2 seed Simona Halep 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (4-7), 3-0 (Halep retired). Halep, who was unseeded and just 18, beat Serena Williams in the semis.

A group of photographers shooting a cycling race in preparation for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics were mugged.

Tim Tebow is somehow back after not playing any football since 2013. He had a pretty mediocre day (duh) in a preseason game for the Eagles.

The AVP Manhattan Beach Open went down this weekend. Here's John Hyden digging one out. Hyden and his partner Tri Bourne finished 3rd.
