After being barraged with endless tales of the Chicago Cubs' World Series drought during their three games at Wrigley Field, the Cleveland Indians are ready to remind the baseball world that they, too, haven't won a championship in a long-ass time.

To that end, the organization has invited Eddie Robinson, the only surviving member of Cleveland's last World Series winner, to Game 6 tonight, as the Tribe tries to win the whole fuckin' thing for the first time since 1948. Given Robinson's performance the last time he was with the Indians for a Game 6, this seems like the proper call. The first baseman, who hit .254 with 16 home runs and 83 RBIs in 134 games for the '48 Indians, drove in the decisive run in Cleveland's clinching victory over the Boston Braves in Game 6 of that year's Fall Classic.

The 95-year-old Robinson, who also holds the distinction of being the oldest living former Yankee, had previously expressed some annoyance with the Indians for failing to contact him in an October 20 interview with the New York Daily News:

"That's the funny thing about it," he said. "I haven't heard a damn word from Cleveland. Not a word. I'm disappointed. It just seems like they would want to talk to any member of the '48 team, let the press talk to them. I don't understand it. Maybe they'll get in touch with me."

Clearly the Indians learned their lesson. Robinson and his wife, Bette, flew to Cleveland from their home in Texas on Monday and will be hosted in a suite during tonight's game. The four-time All-Star also has another connection to today's squad: He played with manager Terry Francona's father, Tito.

As you might have guessed, there are no surviving members of the Cubs' last championship team.
