Penn State Marches Down the Field for Touchdown, Northwestern Returns Ensuing Kickoff for TD

Penn State drove 78 yards for a touchdown and then gave it all back on the ensuing kickoff.

Penn State capped off a nine play, 78-yard drive with a seven yard touchdown run from Saquon Barkley. It was their longest drive of the game and they moved methodically and effortlessly down the field, eating up chunks of yardage on a few big-ish plays, looking like they might be able to string something together against the 21st ranked Northwestern squad.

But, nah. Then Northwestern took the squibbed kickoff back to the house for a 96-yard touchdown return. Solomon Vault picked up the ball on the four-yard line, bobbled it briefly—which always seems to cross up the coverage team more than the return team—avoided one piss-poor attempt at an arm tackle and then took off streaking up the sideline untouched the rest of the way.
