Yasiel Puig is a freak of nature who decided to use baseball as his way of exercising control over physics. In the ninth inning against the Padres last night, Puig made a great play to even put himself into position to catch this ball—which he, of course, did—and then uncorked a perfect throw to third base after bouncing off the pads down the right field line. There's been some minor hyperbole in this post, I will admit, but this throw really was perfect. It was on target and made it all the way to the other side of the field on the fly. It went from Puig's soft but not too soft hand—it's just the right kind of softness to let you know he's delicate and caring but also the picture of virility—to Justin Turner's glove. Unfortunately, Puig did not throw out Derek Norris on the play; he can't do everything, after all. But that is maybe the point of Yasiel Puig: even a non-event becomes noteworthy.[MLB]
