The United States Women's national team won the Women's World Cup last night in spectacular fashion, beating reigning champions Japan 5-2. Carli Lloyd, the tournament's best player, managed a first-half hat trick, which included a half-field bomb. After the game, Norio Sasaki, Japan's coach, said "Ms. Lloyd, she always does this to us." On Saturday, Chile beat Argentina on penalties in the final of Copa America. Lionel Messi has not won anything with Argentina. Cue the horrible debate about whether he's truly "a great" if he never wins anything with Argentina. (Here's the answer: If he retires tomorrow he will do so as the greatest player to ever kick a ball.)

Nevertheless, Messi is sad:

Rory McIlroy is out of the British Open. The world number one golfer hurt his ankle playing soccer and won't be able to defend his title.

The Tour de France began this weekend. Today marks Stage 3. It's obviously very early, but Swiss rider Fabian Cancellara has the yellow jersey.

At Wimbledon, Venus and Serena Williams just began play. Serina is 10 and 4 all-time against her older sister and heavily favored to win today.

British F1 pilot Lewis Hamilton won the British Grand Prix. The race was not without controversy. Hamilton's mercedes team stages a "fake pit stop." But was it legal?
