Notre Dame's Drue Tranquill Breaks up TD Pass, Injures Knee Celebrating

Notre Dame safety Drue Tranquill appeared to injure his right knee after celebrating a pass break-up on a crucial third down play.

Notre Dame safety Drue Tranquill made a great play to bust up a possible touchdown pass for Georgia Tech and was so excited about it that he suffered what looked like a right knee injury when he landed awkwardly after a jumping celebration with his teammate. It's also possible he did it when he initially jumped into the celebration. It was third-and-17 from the Irish 26 and Georgia Tech looked like they had a pretty good shot at a touchdown that would have likely given them the lead, but Tranquill made a great diving play to get in the way of the ball.

He was in obvious pain immediately and NBC microphones picked up some really upsetting screams of pain and "No!!" from Tranquill. The Notre Dame staff helped him to his feet and he looked to be in tears. The sophomore, who tore the ACL in his left knee last November, is out for the rest of the game and back on the sidelines on crutches.

The whole scene was reminiscent of the injury Stephen Tulloch suffered celebrating a sack almost exactly one year ago.
