Alex Morgan Gives USWNT Lead After Abby Wambach's Missed Penalty Kick

After Abby Wambach missed a penalty kick, Alex Morgan gave USWNT the lead over Colombia.

Three minutes after Abby Wambach pushed a penalty kick wide of the post, Alex Morgan squeezed a shot past Colombia keeper Stefany Castano and gave USWNT a 1-0 lead. In the 47th minute, Colombia's starting keeper Catalina Perez was sent off for taking out Alex Morgan, who was outpacing the Colombia defense as she raced to the goal.

Castano replaced Perez and Ingrid Vidal was taken off to serve the penalty and put Colombia down to ten women. After all the accounting, Wambach took the kick and sliced it just left of the post.

Not long after, USWNT earned a corner kick and Lauren Holiday sent a low cross to the middle of the penalty area, where they were able to control possession and eventually Ali Krieger found Morgan who turned to goal with a quick touch and beat the recently inserted Castano.

In the 65th minute, Megan Rapinoe earned another Penalty kick for the U.S. and Carly Lloyd score to build the lead to 2-0.
