Everyone in Texas High School Football Referee Targeting Case Gets Off Easy

You're banned from this athletic team. You and your children, and your children's children...for three months.

Punishments were finally handed down in the Texas high school football referee targeting case.

Quick refresher: two players intentionally targeted the referee, with the first player hitting him from behind and the second spearing him while on the ground. Afterwards, the players claimed an assistant coach, Mack Breed, told them to do it.

Breed has been suspended for the rest of the school year and received two years' probation. The maximum punishment he could have received was three years' probation. The team's head coach, Gary Gutierrez, also received two years' probation and a "public reprimand," which, God, just think of all the things that could mean in Texas.

Meanwhile, the two players who actually hit the referee can't play sports for the rest of the year. Bummer. How will they ever learn such noble lessons as discipline, obedience, and character now?
